Perfect gift for yourself or loved ones

At first I thought "Ho hum, another journal."

Then I looked inside! The reference section alone is worth the price - everything you could need at your fingertips, for creating a garment. There are instructions for measuring, the amount of ease to allow, and charts for basic sizes, to help you to custom size a garment for yourself or a loved one. A glossary of common terms and abbreviations follows, for new knitters trying to learn 'knitese', or experienced knitters who need a refresher course. There's even instructions for making a gauge swatch. I especially liked the 'reminder' to launder the swatch before measuring - in case the color runs or the yarn stretches or shrinks. You will be aware of this before beginning to knit the garment, and may decide to use a different yarn.

The section on working with a 'complete schematic' isn't found in all reference books, but once you see how easy it makes working with your design elements and measurements, you won't need pages and pages of words - just a picture - I love this idea. Great if you're knitting on-the-go - no more losing your place in written instructions. Having been knitting for years, I found this section very helpful.

Following the introductory section are multiple pages for recording all information on your current project(s), in case you need a refresher (since most knitters have several projects going at once, or at least I do). The general instructions state the these pages also become a reference for future projects, and you can easily look back and see how productive you've been with your needles, or what you made for your grandchild last year, or their preference for colors in the notes section. Great for those of us who knit for many family members. This section includes graph paper for drawing a schematic or charting a Stitch pattern - everything in one place, on facing pages.

At the back of the Notebook is a section for recording your inventory of needles, notions and yarn - no more getting to your favorite yarn shop and wondering if you own the right size needles for a new project (and we can all relate to that one), or if you have a small amount of left-over yarn that will be perfect for a small area of color in the new project. Why buy a whole skein when you already have the perfect yarn in your stash? This was a helpful reminder for me!

If you knit for family and friends (and who doesn't?), there's an area to record the measurements of your favorite people (and yourself). No spoiling a surprise gift by having to measure the future recipient, and the measurements are ready for a session of burning-the-midnight-oil when you're having trouble sleeping (and want to knit to unwind?)

At the end of the Notebook is a section for designs - either ideas you have while knitting a garment and want to remember, or your own one-of-a-kind designs, as the general instructions state. This is a great way to let the 'creative-you' out - a reminder we all can use.

One of the best things about this Notebook (my opinion), is it's small size. It will easily fit in a knitting bag, and be ready to refer to wherever you are ---- does a knitter ever leave the kintting bag home? No way.

I looked at a few other knitter's journals and chose the one that was right for me.

Outstandng Notebook!

This notebook is amazing. It is obviously made by someone who is an experienced knitter who packed it with an amazing amount of fields in which to notate all information important to a project. This is perfect for taking away with you on vacation or roadtrips.

Wishlist for the Knitter's Notebook:
I would love to see this notebook turned into an Android App that can be linked to Ravelry.
I would love to see this notebook in a full 8x11.5 or similar size - would help with design ideas.
I would love to see this notebook created in spiral bound. I, for one, would purchase inserts for it.

Nice Comprehensive Knitter's Notebook with Contemporary Design

I definitely believe in keeping a craft journal (and have lots of creative ideas for crochet ones that I’ll be sharing in my own next book) and this one is a ready-to-go option for knitters. You can easily write down your start and end dates, the project’s name, who it’s for, where the pattern came from, tons of details about the yarn and pattern and needles used and measurements, etc. as well as make various notes and charts. The notebook also has a reference section of helpful on sizing, abbreviations, etc. and a section for your yarn inventory. There’s a part of me that wonders how many people would opt for this pen-and-paper option when the same stuff can be done online, through Ravelry for example, but considering that I’m someone who still uses a pen-and-paper To Do list and a print calendar for everything, I’m sure there are people who would find the notebook helpful!

Amazing book!!!!

This book is great, I love it! It shares with you a lot of secrets of Auradon and some of the history behind Auradon, it also has some notes that are passed through Ben and mal and some of my he other kids!it also has lots of pictures and thoughts of the kids!I definitely recommend this book to anybody who likes or loves descendants!!!

Great book by amazing author

Great book by amazing author! I've known Louie's ministry for years, so I was thrilled to see a bible study by him. It is an easy format for small group discussion and doesn't require tons of prep each week. The videos that go with the study are great, but you do need the actual book written by the same name. The study can be done with just this study guide, your bible and the videos, but the actual book gives TONS more details and stories that make it worth doing the reading in it as well. LOVED the study! Excellent for young and old. Inspiring us to not grow weary in doing well and to see many in scripture who were used by God despite obstacles and issues they had to overcome.

A practical and useful approach to O-O projects, UML and UP.

This is a rare find. It is a useful combination of many related software engineering topics, with enough O-O history to provide some perspective, and enough detail on the Unified Process & the Unified Modeling Language to provide both an understanding and a practical series of steps for project success.
If your department tries to balance doing things right with doing things quickly, if you're wondering why the UML has become the de facto notation, if you're using Java and want your group to do more object-oriented approaches, if you're thinking you'd like to use Java, or you'd like to use the UML for your design notations, if you've heard object-oriented engineering can provide some benefit.. then you'll probably find this book to move to the top of your 'must read and must share' list.
If you're moving your architecture towards distributed objects and Enterprise JavaBeans, there's some useful advice on designing Java-specific objects.
It is clearly written and easy to follow, and can be read chapter by chapter or as a reference text. I would have only one suggestion for the author. He briefly mentions the similarity between O-O and the Spiral Model or the UP and the Spiral Model. Mr. Hunt would have done well to include an overview of the Spiral Model in his work. [Search the Software Engineering Institute at Carnegie Mellon for more info. Our design team considers the Spiral Model an important and practical and even useful approach to software engineering projects. Combine the Spiral Model methodology for projects, the Unified Process approach to designs, and the Unified Modeling Language for design notations, and you've got what we consider to be a winning approach to object-oriented software development.
Mr. Hunt provides a valuable book on the UP and the UML with a real world perspective. We're going to buy copies of his book for our entire team.

Shows how to use RUP in real life

Easily approachable and good. The book talks not just about RUP, but also about its roots (OMT, Fusion, objectory etc), and about UML. It also guides the reader through the maze of workflows in the RUP and gives advice on how to configure RUP as a lightweight process for web development. This book is a great contrast to all the other RUP books that are too theoretical to be of any use except for those who already are using RUP.

The book really is for practitioners...

Its good. Once you get over his British writing style, its a good read. I'm only 1/2 way through, but I have found it very accessible so far. Not only does he talk about the UML diagraming, he talks about the Unified Process (in like 250 pages! - now thats a refreshing break). The book delivers what it promises. Its not a reference guide, but it is definitly *teaching* me some practical stuff.
