this is a great book...the best about the brutal war in the american revolution...from the wilds of new york to the forests of the ohio this script relates with great veracity this black period of north american history...theres no book like this, this is the best.

Must read for serious students of Unconventional Warfare

150 years before T.E. Lawrence successfully led Arab tribal warriors in a guerrilla war against the Turks, and 200 years before US Army Special Forces (Green Berets) successfully trained and led montagnard tribesmen against Viet Cong forces, a Montreal-born French infantry captain led a force of 637 north American Indian warriors and 200 French infantry and Canadien militia soldiers against a numerically superior force of British regulars and American colonial militia numbering 3,000 under the command of British general Braddock and George Washington. The setting: the Monongehela river near present day Pittsburgh, PA. The results: a stunning defeat of the British-American force, which suffered over 1,000 casualties including General Braddock, who died during the retreat. The French and their Indian allies suffered only 21 men killed. Included among the French dead was Daniel Hyacinthe Marie Lienard de Beaujeu, the mastermind of the French and Indian victory. Like Green Berets serving in Afghanistan today, Captain de Beaujeu was a fine example of a "force multiplier". He was able to leverage his knowledge of Indian language, customs, and style of fighting to gain the trust of those tribes and ultimately lead them to victory. DE OPPRESSO LIBER...
I agree with the reviewer above that it would have been good to have maps included in this work. This is the only thing I would say that could have made a fine work even finer. I would recommend this book to anyone with a background or an interest in the unconventional warfare side of special operations...

I am doing a thesis for an M.A. in American History, on my great x5 grandfather, Ebenezer Zane. Your book has done a lot to help be expand on the information I have been able to glean about Zane from elsewhere.
