Scott Caan has a way with words and dialogue to reveal character and conflict, while delivering a very personal message that creeps up on you and hits you with a bang. As an excellent actor, he's becoming quite a writer! His style in uniquely him and he does it so well. Enjoy his stuff immensely.

The BEST technical book I've ever read... seriously.

I bought the digital version of this when I became interested in learning C++. I have a technical background in electrical and electronic design, but have limited experience with programming. I was completely amazed at the talent that Alex Allain has as a teacher. I have read some other books dealing with embedded programming (assembler), Visual Basic, and Ansi C, with some degree of success in each, but it was a challenge to understand the 'why' behind the process. Programming by steps does not always impart the intuition that you need to know why you are doing what you doing. This is a point where this book truly shines. The examples are extremely intuitive, and give you instant insight. You come away with more than the mechanics of programming in C++; you learn how to approach the problem and use the language effectively. I've never come across a technical book that was so well written. This guy is a gifted teacher. Do not hesitate to buy this book.
I have absolutely NO connection to the author, other than finding his website and buying the digital edition. I believe in giving credit where it is due, and this is the best technical book I've ever read. You WILL learn from this.

Excellent and Well written

I have read several books on C++ but Alex Allain has a very nice way of presenting very complex and confusing aspects of this extremely powerful language. I especially liked his explanation of pointers and his presentation of how they are used in a detail explanation of linked lists and binary tree searches.
Having been a programmer for many years, I never understood the emphasis in C++ of writing text files versus binary and that idea was explained in detail as well. I would still recommend Mike McGraths book for beginners but "JumpingInto C++" should be the next step. And Alex doesn't leave you at the end of the book. He has a web site that is dedicated to the furtherance and understanding of C++ loaded with tutorials and newsletters to continue your C++ education. A great experience and a great read by a great teacher.

Basic Quilting Pattern Book

While the book itself is nice, it is not what I expected. Based on the front cover and the description I was hoping that the book would contain more patterns similar to what was depicted on the front cover. I was specifically looking for some patterns similar to the Baltimore Beauty style that can be adapted to wool applique. Judging from the cover and the description I ordered the book. It arrived quickly and is a very nice quilting book but unfortunately the majority of the patterns are the typical block/rotary cutter style based on squares and triangles. Not that there is nothing wrong with that at all for traditional quilters, but as I said I was looking for patterns more closely tracking the front cover. In all there were only two patterns inside that met my needs. The book does contain a master pattern sheet in the back which is nice.

So, bottom line...if you are a traditional quilter this book should be just fine. While the patterns are the standard quilting fare and not all that inspirational from a unique standpoint, they are well photographed and the directions are clear. If you are looking for quilting patterns that adapt to wool applique I would suggest looking a bit further. I might recommend "Baltimore's Country Cousins" which I also ordered here on Amazon and it is a perfect fit for applique work based on the traditional Baltimore style but geared towards a more country/primitive feel.

Wanted this particular book for the directions for one quilt I'd seen somewhere on the web. Got the best price here, the book is like new and shipping was fast too. The pages are spiral bound so the book lays flat and stays open which is a good feature.

Walter Brueggemann is William Marcellus McPheeters Professor Emeritus of Old Testament at Columbia Theological Seminary. A past president of the Society of Biblical Literature, he is one of today's preeminent interpreters of Scripture.

Conference on Spirituality...

Recently I asked Prof Brueggemann for one of his lesser known writings on Justice or Injustice. This request came for a friend who as a non-violent protester at Ft. Benning GA was convicted to serve a six months sentence at a Kentucky Federal Prison. Without hesitation our good professor came up with the single chapter in this little gem of 65 pages! He simply repeated the names of the writers - Sharon Parks and Thomas Groome and their conference on Spirituality in Portland Maine in 1983. His valued contributions are the Preface written in May of 1984 and the first Chapter with the title of "Voices of the Night - Against Justice."
Since Brueggemann is the Theologian of three writers he sets the stage with the technical issues and background of Micah's tradition among the Old Testament prophets of Justice, Mercy and Compassion. As only our favorite OT Prof can accomplish he makes the case for Micah's program of poetry as a guide for our ways in education. As in his teaching he outlines the texts with headings of Economically, Epistemologically and Linguistically. Along the way he briefly focuses on Torah of Yahweh and the Exodus Memory: "Micah offers a vision of the nations submitting to the torah of Yahweh." He relates theology behind textual interpretation with doing justice, loving kindness, and walking humbly with God. As one of my Chaplain friends notes, "most every exposition of Brueggemann comes out like poetry!" He is first and foremost a Poet.

Cute family drama

I was so excited when I saw there was a sequel to a book I enjoyed very much--The Exiled Omega. I waited until the weekend to read it at my leisure. It was great. Taking place a month after the end of the first book this is a really nice wrap up of the story about the brave Alpha bucking tradition and his courageous Omega & new stepson.

If you enjoyed the first book you will definitely like what happens next. The little family are really enjoying their life together. The pack, even those who were upset about the Omega exiled from an enemy pack bonding with their Alpha, had finally accepted the new Alpha Mate as well as his young son. Favorite secondary characters make an appearance, in particular the Alpha's best friend/Beta, Nathan and Marie who helped him so much with the little guy who would become his stepson.

There is a big lack of communication between the MCs. They have the same concerns and fears about their new relationship and their futures as fathers. Even little Matthew had a problem communicating with his Dads. This is a cute family drama just long enough to give you a nice update on the goings on of our favorite couple and kid or rather cub. And yes there is a pregnancy in this story :0). Happy reading!

I love the follow-up to Derek and Caleb’s story!

They are learning/loving each other and discovering things about themselves that they previously didn’t know. In this story the POV of each person has been removed. And while I loved having each POV in the first book the story has progressed to a point that it’s no longer needed to make the story complete.

Matthew continues to be a critical part of the story as he adjusts to his new life within the pack and being in a safe and loving environment. His reactions and observations in the story are both heart-warming and heart-breaking at different points.
Without giving too many spoilers this is a story of a family that learns to accept that they are strong and that change can be beautiful.

What a great story to read after The Exiled Omega! You get to see the inner workings of the trio family as they experience the joy and wonder of bringing a new pup into the family. You get to see the highs of the new excitement of a pregnancy and the lows of a sibling worrying about his place in the family. This is a great work by Alex that let's you see a more in depth view of a great family and werewolf pack! Worth the read!!

This ebook quickly covers many different areas of your life where you can declutter and simplify. It is organized into different rooms of your home and different areas of your life. This talks about common trouble spots like the bedroom and bathroom. It also gets into organizing your digital life and friends. There are even tips on relationships and eating habits. The advice the ebook gives is pretty general. It is more of a guide to get you started with organizational skills. It lists a bunch of different areas of life where change can happen to make life simpler and less stressful. There are not many detailed or specific "things to do" in this ebook. This is more of a place to start to see the places in your life where you may need change.

There are a few helpful tips and things I have been overlooking for years. But most of the advice is logical stuff or things that I already do. This is geared more to people who are really overwhelmed and need a guide of where to start. It is a quick easy read so you might pick up some tricks.

Getting rid of clutter and becoming more mindful are there at the same time. I find the book to be informative as the author covers lots of spaces and objects for decluttering, but they are obvious, though it’s good to see the list and follow. I wish I could get more specific and interesting tips to feel really motivated to do it step-by –step without even a day gap.

I found a lot of errors in the book--words repeated, incomplete sentences. The tips are OK, but I didn't learn much I didn't already know. However, it is a good book for someone just starting out trying to organize.
