Three simple approaches to meditate

I like the three simple approaches to meditate that are outlined in the book.
1. Day dream, (now I have an excuse to day dream)
2. 1000 mile stare
3. Muscle relaxation
I didn't like all the fluff around the approaches and the feeling that I was being sold something.
The day dreaming approach to meditation was new to me. The muscle relaxation in the book more of relaxe your muscles. In other books I've read the approach is to tense up one group of muscles and then move to the next. when you focus on the next group of muscles the body automatically relaxes the last group.
Over all it was worth the read. Who knows if you try the approaches you might like it.

The style is direct and unpretentious. The message is simple but extraordinarily powerful: life is short, the past and the future are inaccessible, pain and pleasure have no meaning, but inside each one of us there is a ruling faculty that is touched only by itself. Only that which makes us better capable of confronting our condition with resolution and courage can be said to be good, and only that which makes us worse and more unsatisfied can be said to be bad. The only thing that is of any importance is our own private quest for perfection, which no external power can ever destroy. This book delivers many insightful and inspirational observations about human nature and the human condition, and he makes an excellent rational argument for seeking the good and for acting modestly and continently. I cannot think or a more satifying and moving work, and it is all the more poignant because it was written by a man who wielded almost absolute power and lived surrounded by the luxury, yet managed to keep things in perspective and to occupy himself only with what truly matters. One sentence captures perfectly the spirit of his writings: "Where a man can live, there he can also live well." An extraordinary testimony of wisdom and fortitude.
Of course, this book can learn you how to meditatie but if you want to find out what meditation to meditate deeper and properly I would recommend to try read "a crossing or the drop's history" by Anatoliy Obraztsov before.

Worth reading a few times

I really enjoyed this book and I'll read it again a few more times. I like James' writing style, he tells interesting stories. In this book he mentions another book of his called "Beyond Belief" so I bought it and that turned out to be a good decision - I like it very much (haven't finished it yet). Thank you so much James Coyle for sharing your knowledge with us, much appreciated!
